'Shape Of Water' Wins Best Picture And No, There Was No Mix-Up This Year

Unlike 2017's disastrous mixup, which accidentally awarded La La Land with the Best Picture title, there was no mishap when Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway returned to the scene of the crime to award The Shape of Water with the Best Picture award at the 2018 Academy Awards on Sunday night (March 4).

Just as they did last year, the Bonnie and Clyde stars took to the Jimmy Kimmel-hosted ceremony at the end of the night, with all spectators watching to see how they'd play off of last year's flub. "It's so nice seeing you again," a smiling Beatty told the audience, before Faye quipped. "As they say, presenting is lovelier the second time." However, it wasn't about Beatty and Dunaway once Guillermo del Toro took the stage to receive the Best Picture award.

For the milestone win, the super-director kicked off the acceptance speech, tellings fans that he always used to grow up watching various sci-fiction films like E.T. and had high hopes for the future.  "I'm very very proud. I want to dedicate this to every young filmmaker," he said at the podium. "I was a kid with movies and growing up in Mexico I thought this would never happen. It happens."

Days before the ceremony, TMZ reported that Beatty and Dunaway would do the honors once again to make up for last year's debacle. Now, it wasn't entirely their fault in 2017 as much as it was the accountant from PricewaterhouseCoopers, the firm that oversees Oscar balloting, when he accidentally handed Beatty the envelope for Best Actress, which went to La La Land's Emma Stone.
