'Judge Judy' Ending After 25 Seasons, But She's Not Retiring Yet

It's the end of an era.

After 25 seasons, Judge Judy is coming to an end. Host Judy Sheindlin made the announcement during an appearance on The Ellen Degeneres Show on Monday (March 2). According to Sheindlin, the 2020-21 season of Judge Judy will also be its last. The news was then confirmed byThe Hollywood Reporter.

Before you get too upset over the news, Sheindlin and Judge Judy aren't going anywhere just yet. During her appearance on Ellen, the longtime reality show host revealed CBS felt it was the right time to start selling reruns of the show rather than produce new episodes going forward. Not only that, Sheindlin hinted that she'll be starring in a new television program. Unfortunately, however, she couldn't reveal too many details about the upcoming Justice Judy.

"I've had a 25-year-long marriage with CBS and it's been successful," Sheindlin told Ellen Degeneres. "Next year will be our 25th season, silver anniversary, and CBS sort of felt, I think, they wanted to optimally utilize the repeats of my program. Because now they have 25 years of reruns. So what they decided to do was to sell a couple of years' worth of reruns. But I'm not tired, so Judy Justice will be coming out a year later."

As for when and where fans will be able to watch Sheindlin's new projects, she said: "Judge Judy, you'll be able to see next year — a full year, all new shows. ... The following couple of years, you should be able to catch all the reruns that CBS has sold to the stations that are currently carrying Judge Judy, andJudy Justice will be going elsewhere. Isn't that fun?"

After 25 years on air, Judge Judy remains one of the most successful shows of all time. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show averages approximately 9 million viewers per day and is TV's most-watched court show. Sheindlin is the highest-paid personality on TV, earning $47 million a year for her work on Judge Judy.
