I used to be a paratrooper on Fort Richardson. This FB video of parachute close calls had me biting my nails! I have never experienced any of these malfunctions, though U.S. Army paratroopers do train to deal with all of them. AIRBORNE!! HOOAH! My pics are after the vid.
Wow! That airborne training still clings to me. I was saying to the screen, "Slip away!" and "Sky Shark!" among other things. Fortunately, though I had a couple of tough landings, I had no parachute malfunctions on the way down back then.
Not many photos exist of my Army Days. "Selfie" was not a word I learned until later. Top: Me at jump school around 1995. Bottom: Last jump, October 31, 1997, on Fort Rich. I got a traditional "snow bath" from my unit-- not voluntarily. Good times! ~Brian
