It just had my second week weigh-in for Phase 4 and my weight range is stable. (link)
My health coach believes that my 5-pound weight range will be between 162 and 167. On some weeks I may lose a bit (like the .4 pounds last week) and in other weeks I may gain, like the 1 pound increase yesterday... after having eaten three meals that day before stepping on the scale.
No diet is a vaccine against gaining weight. This is solid wisdom that my health coach, Dylan Webb (above), shares with each of his clients and at our weight loss seminars. Admittedly, there are several ways to lose weight, and many people who gain it back say that their diet plan didn't work.
However, I've discovered through my own past yo-yo dieting and my current transition to regular foods that keeping weight off is all about my healthy lifestyle habits, and these I have to learn anew. Fortunately, Ideal Protein comes with a 4-phase 'exit strategy' that is teaching me what to eat and how to eat it after losing the weight in order to keep it off.
I even got to pick the brain of an Olympic level athlete this week. While competitors that day chatted with my co-emcee at Special Olympics Alaska's winter games, I was the guy asking her about carbs for when I do long distance biking. Go figure.
Carbs can be tricky. I was on a low-carb plan for 9 months. Ideal Protein didn't eliminate them completely, though. I did realize that during that phase, I had to restrict my physical activity to walking and very light biking.
Now, the trick is to increase my carbs to suit my increased exercise, but not enough to create an excess... AND in most meals I try to separate carbs from fat, so that my insulin doesn't have the ready building blocks to create fat cells with the excess. I'm also avoiding simple carbs.
That doesn't mean that I'm not enjoying my return to normal food though.
Part of Ideal Protein's Phase 4 is learning how to manage "indulgence days." Once a week, I can eat whatever I want. This was possibly the best tasting slice of pizza in the world! But still, my weight remained stable because I know what to eat the next day. So hey, it is possible to enjoy parties, dates, and holiday meals. I am going forward toward all of that with knowledge and a plan, thanks to Ideal Protein. Have a great weekend, and click the pics for more information. ~Brian
