NSV's: Non-Scale Victories During Weight Loss

NSV stand for Non-Scale Victory. It's a way that people measure success while on a weight loss journey.  As I slimmed down with You First on the Ideal Protein Protocol (link), I discovered that my journey was not just about dropping pounds-- it's about regaining life!

FITTING INTO CLOTHES:  I eventually dropped from a 2XL (and occasionally a 3XL) to large and now medium shirts.  My pant size dropped from the upper 40's to under 32 (not quite a 30, but I'm working on it).

PHYSICAL FITNESS:  At 313 pounds, I had trouble walking up a couple flights of stairs and I walked slightly bowlegged.  My legs were so thick that I couldn't really bring them together completely.

During my weight loss which would total 151 pounds from March 2017 to February 2018, I felt my energy and stamina returning. I don't get winded on a simple stair climb.

In 2018, I biked in one 'century' and two 'metric century' rides-- the 100 mile Clean Air Challenge out of Talkeetna, and the 100 kilometer rides of Front Runner in Salt Lake City and the Tour de Cure in Anchorage.  Check out this gallery of my rides and training.

HEALTH IMPROVEMENT!
I didn't just start to feel healthier as I lost weight with You First on the Ideal Protein Protocol, I had measurable health improvement.

My body no longer needs injections of testosterone since my levels came  back to normal.  I no longer wear prescription compression socks for water-swollen feet and lower legs.  And look at how much more efficiently my heart is beating.

LONGEVITY!
While no one can predict how long they will live, people can improve their odds for a longer life of higher quality.

I am fortunate that I found Ideal Protein before something irreversible happened to my body.  Now I know that I stand a better chance of living longer, and being able to do more with the life I have left.

When I was over 300 pounds, I'd almost given up on a life beyond my recliner.  At age 49 (I'm now 51), I'd practically resigned myself to a sedentary life.

This year... I climbed Flattop for the very first time, up into the clouds.

So many things improved as I shed the excess fat that had become my biological prison.  Not just big things;  tying shoes without holding my breath, picking up keys that I dropped, and walking for hours without tiring--I got those back too.

And though I've got plenty of snow on the roof, I feel like I'm 20 years younger.

A BROADCASTER FOR 30 YEARS

All of these NSV's and more are waiting for you, too.  As incredible as my own weight loss journey has been, I have to remind myself and others that I'M NOT SPECIAL.

I just recognized that I needed help, realized that my old thinking about weight loss wasn't working, and found You First and the Ideal Protein Protocol (link).  If it can work for me... why not you?
