Lady Gaga's mom Cynthia Germanotta says she missed the signs when her daughter Stefani (Gaga) was in crisis and she's telling the story in hopes of helping other parents.
Her "aha moment" was when she decided to change the way she helps her daughters navigate struggles. “My husband and I worked very hard to kind of try to get her out of the environment that she was in and take her for a walk and spend the next 30 minutes trying to fix the problem and counseling her or maybe giving her some advice, At the end of the walk that we had, she kind of looked at us and said, ‘You know, that was really lovely, and thank you for the walk'" but then said all she really needed was for her parents to listen, to validate her feelings and not try to fix it. Cynthia says that was the moment of “awakening” for her “and advice that I needed to hear as a parent.”
